Los perfiles psicológicos, tanto del asesino como del estudiante protagonista, están bastante bien delineados, como viene siendo especialidad del autor. Sin embargo, el desarrollo está lejos de la maestría demostrada en "El psicoanalista", para mí lo mejor que he leído del escritor, junto con "La guerra de Hart", otra novela muy conseguida. Hay elementos del pasado que no quedan suficientemente explicados. Sabemos que el asesino, el referido como el estudiante 5, está ejecutando una venganza que viene tramando desde hace 20 años. Sabemos más o menos lo que pasó, pero no porqué ni cómo pasó, o al menos yo no lo he averiguado. Y creo que llega al desenlace de forma un tanto atropellada. En definitiva, mantuvo mi interés, pero no me dejó del todo satisfecho.
