In a crowd of 11, 000 people and surrounded by tall buildings, the watch locked my location in about 10 seconds, so I think it's pretty impressive technology. Honestly, even using the regular technology in DC, the longest it's ever taken to track my location is about 30 seconds. In run mode, there are two screens you can customize with up to three fields on each screen, so you can track up to six things at one time. If you get the HR strap, there is a third screen you get. The fields you can track include: timer, lap time, last lap time, average lap time, elapsed time, distance, lap distance, last lap distance, pace, average pace, lap pace, last lap pace, speed, average speed, lap speed, last lap speed, maximum speed, HR, average HR, HR zone, training effect, HR% max, %HRR, Average HR% max, average%HRR, lap HR, lap%HRR, lap HR%max, time in zone, cadence fields, temperature fields (which I didn't even know about until I saw it just now), elevation, calories, laps, sunrise/sunset, and time of day.

Activity Tracking: The watch tracks steps, which I'm grateful for since my fitbit died on me. You can set specific step goals, but what I like is that the watch comes up with a step goal for me based on the previous days. It will track your sleep too, but I don't like to wear it to bed. Cons: I kind of wish the backlight was a tad brighter, but it does the job. Also, sometimes wearing the watch through the day, the "run" button gets pressed and it will be on run mode for a few minutes. I have not yet tracked any unintended runs. Summary: Overall, I'm not a picky person at all and I'm easily excited about everything, so I love my watch. It does what I need it to do and it does it well. I also love the options that my watch gives me should I decide to become more serious about my training. It may be a bit pricy for some, in which case I would encourage you to look at FR10 or 15 or maybe the 30 that just came out? I should mention that the watch does not stop me from drinking too much beer or eating too much chocolate and does not make me a better runner, but it does the job that it's meant to do, and it tracks the data that I need it to.

Hello friends! Back in August, I got a bonus at work and obviously decided to spend it on something running related. After having some issues with my FR 25, I decided to get a new watch and came home with a FR 230. A couple of people mentioned wanting a review of it and I figured since with the holiday season coming up, now might be a great chance to write a review of the watch. Please note, I am not DC Rainmaker and will not be giving a complete review with specs and all that jazz. I would encourage you to check out his review if you're serious about the watch. Unboxing: It was a box with the watch, paper instructions that I did not read, and a charger. I didn't get the heart rate monitor only because I don't really train using heart rate and if I felt like tracking heart rate one day, I could always get the strap. A few months later, and I still don't really train using heart rate so it's not something I miss. I ordered the black and white watch and I love the color. How it looks: I have gotten a lot of compliments on the watch.

As a middle of the pack runner who doesn't track much more than time/distance/pace, these are more than enough features for me. There are also training modes. I can download my training calendar (if I had one) and workouts from Garmin Connect, and I can set intervals on my watch. The watch also has the "Finish Time" feature which will give you your estimated finish time on various race distances. If you train with HR, you can also get your VO2 max, recovery advisor, and race time predictions. The watch does smart notifications, which I turn on while running. The watch itself both beeps and vibrates with notifications and also laps, which I love because I listen to music while running. The watch has auto pause/resume, and you can also set alerts to remind you to drink water or even to turn around and go home. Battery: Battery life is amazing. I charge my watch once a week regardless just so I don't forget to charge it through the week, but I think the last time I charged it was three weeks ago (with daily wear and two weeks of running) and the battery is just now getting low.
