At the time of writing, there's no clear consensus on whether these courses differ from the With Ease courses in any significant way. Without Toil series [ edit | edit source] Most HTLALers who have got the opportunity to compare say that the old Assimils had more content inside them and therefore lead to better results. It is well possible as many courses are being dumbed down over the decades. However, some of the older Assimils contain dated vocabulary and conversation situations and most are hard to obtain. Unfortunately the company isn't going to either reprint them or release them to the public sphere (one member asked in past for personal reasons), so copyright defeats us again here. Using series [ edit | edit source] Assimil claims C1, most agree on B2 or even B1+, depends on quite the same things as with the With Ease series. Business series [ edit | edit source] These courses exist for only a handful of languages, and they use a slightly different format than other Assimil courses.

For Arabic you can learn Moroccan, Tunisian, Algerian, Lebanese, or Egyptian. For German you can learn Alemannic or Standard German. And so on. They also have a nice selection of books for harder to find languages like Afrikaans, Icelandic, and Maori, and regional languages like Breton, Alsatian, Auvergnat, and Gascon. And they even have publications for Sanskrit, Ancient Greek, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, and Latin. In my opinion, especially as someone who obsessed over Mayan hieroglyphs and Egyptian hieroglyphs in middle school, that's pretty darn cool. The Down Side The only thing I might mention here is that learners don't have as many options through Assimil if they don't speak French. Since the majority of the resources are available in French only (particularly the guides on dialects and rarer languages), some learners might miss out on using this fantastic resource. This, of course, isn't a permanent downside for Assimil. As they grow, they can always work towards making more of their publications available in other languages based on demand.

At this point you should understand what is being said. 7. Listen to the recording once more. Stop the machine after each sentence, and try to repeat it aloud.

This is one of those reviews. All About Assimil Founded by Alphonse Chérel in 1929, Assimil is a French publishing company that specializes in foreign language materials. Their first book, "Anglais Sans Peine" [English with Ease], not only served as their entrance into the language learning community, but as the debut of what would become their most popular series.
do you ever review previous lessons or is the book setup that they include enough review on it's own? I'll continue doing my other French study efforts and am going to add Assimil on as another thing to possibly help my conversational French in case I run into someone who speaks it, which doesn't happen on a daily basis. TL;DR - Do you review Assimil lessons or does the book do a good enough job on it's own to just go through it lesson by lesson until the end?
